International Leadership Conference for North Carolina Students

International Leadership Conference
November 14-15, 2009

Appalachian State University
Boone, NC

Greetings! The planning committee for the North Carolina International Leadership Conference for Students is happy to announce that the registration for the 2009 conference is underway. This year's conference will be held at Appalachian State University in Boone from Saturday, November 14th to Sunday, November 15th. The conference will bring together international students, returning study-abroad and serve-abroad students, and students specializing in the field of international and global relations. A major goal of the conference is to introduce leadership principles and community service through targeted workshops and a hands-on service project during the conference.

ASU is looking forward to hosting this year's conference- the mountains should be looking spectacular in their fall colors! It will be a busy but fun weekend - there will be relevant sessions on international issues, a service project, a dance and a chance to meet many people who are interested in the global community. We are also extremely fortunate to have Ms. Antoinette Sithole as this year's keynote speaker. As stated in Ms. Sithole's biographical information, "Antoinette Sithole serves as an educational speaker and curator of the Hector Pieterson Museum in Soweto, South Africa. She is the sister of the late Hector Pieterson, who died on the 16 June 1976, in the Soweto uprisings in South Africa. At age 12, her brother was the first and youngest child to be killed by the Apartheid regime. The Hector Pieterson Museum was established in 2002 to commemorate and preserve the history of all young people who were killed under Apartheid protesting the injustices of that system, especially the inferior education provided for black students. Ms. Sithole has been the museum curator from its inception." All who attend this year's North Carolina International Leadership Conference will benefit tremendously from the opportunity to listen to Ms. Sithole.

Registration for the conference will end on October 23, 2009. Please encourage students (including international students, study and volunteer abroad returnees, and those pursuing majors/careers in international relations) and colleagues to attend this event.

The registration form and hotel information are included below. Registration is only $25 - a fantastic deal! There are also travel grants available - the application form is included below as well. Please note that the scholarship application needs to be turned in by October 2nd.
